FirstGroup today, empowerment tomorrow

As you might expect, we’re big on journeys here; your time within FirstGroup is as much about how you can get there as it is about where we can take you. And better still, learning and development here comes in the form of varied and exciting opportunities and activities. We think that's the best way to give you a rounded experience of what life is like as part of our team.

Over 8 to 12 weeks, it’s up to you to own your development, although you’ll have a line manager and buddy to support you every step of the way. This means you get to learn in the way you want and shape your placement experience. We’ll make our expectations clear when we offer you a place.

Learning on-the-job

The best way to learn about our business is by being part of it. From the word go, you’ll develop your skills by working directly with other colleagues. We want to find the right balance between meeting your needs and our business priorities, so as an Intern, we’ll make sure the work you’re given is real and has direct consequences but also provides you with knowledge, skills and insight. No matter where you decide to go after your placement, this experience will have you heading in the right direction.

Feedback, coaching and training

We completely understand the importance of providing insight and building up a positive rapport with all of our Interns. That’s why we place such an emphasis on feedback and mentoring. We’ll encourage you to work with your line manager and peers to evaluate what you do, which will help you build on your strengths and spot areas for further development.

Personal Development Plan (PDP)

Your tailored PDP will be at the forefront of your development. It’s a plan that travels with you throughout your time with us. You’ll continually review and update it so that we can decide collaboratively where you should go once your time with us ends.

Beyond your Internship

And once you’ve completed your internship? What happens then?

If you’re successful during your placement, we’ll discus the options available with you. Based on your performance, we may even be in a position to offer you a place on one of our Graduate Programmes. As with all great journeys, they must come to an end. But as you return to your studies, we’ll be sure to stay in touch with you!

Your Rewards

Are you the kind of person who rolls up their sleeves and gets stuck in? If so, you can expect fantastic training, great development opportunities and all kinds of benefits, including:

Salary

As an intern, you can expect a salary of £18,000 pro rata.

Annual Leave

You’ll enjoy 25 days’ annual leave pro rata plus bank holidays.

Support and networks

Thanks to our mentoring programme, you’ll have support throughout your internship. You can also get to know our current graduates and build a useful network that could be valuable in the future.
